Add the Kurdistan Flag Emoji to Major Social Media and Messaging Platforms

The Issue

Millions of Kurdish people around the world use social media and messaging platforms every day to communicate, express themselves, and celebrate their culture and identity.

Emoji have become a universal language. They allow people to express emotions, pride, belonging, and identity in simple and powerful ways. When a community is unable to represent itself through these symbols, it can feel as though their voice is limited or unseen.

While Unicode does not currently support a Kurdistan Region flag emoji due to technical limitations, many major platforms already provide custom or platform-specific emojis beyond Unicode standards.

We respectfully call on companies such as Telegram, Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), X (Twitter), TikTok, Apple, and Google to add a Kurdistan flag emoji within their platforms.

This request is about cultural representation, inclusion, and visibility — not politics.

Providing a Kurdistan flag emoji would allow Kurdish users to express pride in their identity, connect with one another, and feel recognized in the digital spaces they use every day.

We urge these companies to listen to their users and take this meaningful step toward greater representation.

Lack of an ISO code should never mean lack of dignity, voice, or belonging.
