Add the Black American Flag Emoji

Add the Black American Flag Emoji
The Issue
Emojis are the universal language of the digital age. They represent identity, culture, emotion, and belonging for billions of people around the world.
Yet despite the thousands of emojis available today — including national flags, cultural symbols, and community representations — there is still no emoji that represents Black Americans.
We are calling on the organizations that control and implement emojis across all major platforms:
• Unicode Consortium
• Apple Inc.
• Google LLC
• Microsoft Corporation
• Samsung Electronics
to officially approve and add the Black American Flag emoji to the global emoji keyboard.
Why This Matters
Black Americans have a distinct cultural identity, history, and legacy that has shaped the United States and the world.
The Black American Flag has emerged as a widely recognized symbol of:
• Cultural pride
• Strength and resilience
• Unity within the Black American community
• The contributions of Black Americans to this nation
Across social media, art, fashion, protests, celebrations, and everyday communication, this flag is already being used by millions.
Yet without an official emoji, Black Americans remain digitally underrepresented.
There are over 3,600 emojis — including dozens of flags and cultural symbols — but none specifically represent Black Americans.
Representation in digital spaces is not a luxury.
It is a matter of visibility, inclusion, and respect.
Our Request
We respectfully urge:
✅ The Unicode Consortium to approve the Black American Flag as an official emoji
✅ Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Samsung to implement it across all devices and platforms
This simple addition would allow millions of people to express identity and pride in everyday communication.
This Is About Inclusion — Not Division
Recognizing the Black American Flag emoji does not take away from anyone else.
It acknowledges a community whose history, labor, creativity, and resilience helped build this country.
Other nations, cultures, and groups are represented digitally.
Black Americans deserve the same recognition.
How You Can Help
By signing this petition, you are supporting:
• Cultural representation
• Digital inclusion
• Visibility for Black Americans worldwide

Important
Together, we can ensure that the digital world reflects the diversity of the real one.
Once this petition reaches 2500 signatures, we will send the first formal letter to the major corporations and organizations responsible for approving and implementing emojis across all platforms, bringing direct attention to the need for the Black American Flag emoji. When we reach 5000 signatures, we will escalate our efforts through additional outreach and advocacy to ensure this demand receives serious consideration and that the voices calling for digital representation are heard clearly and widely.
