Add pickleball courts and a splash pad to Boulder Creek Park
The Issue
As a mother of children ranging from infant to seventeen years old, I've experienced firsthand the joys and challenges of making the most of our local park. When the weather is good, our park becomes an essential space where my children can play, socialize, and stay active. But as summer approaches and temperatures rise, the limitations of our park become apparent.
Our park is a beloved haven for the community, but it needs to evolve to meet the demands of our growing neighborhood. With a new housing development on the horizon, the influx of families means that our park needs more features to ensure it remains a vibrant and welcoming space for everyone. By converting a portion of the existing grass into pickleball courts and a splash pad, we can enhance the park's utility and appeal, especially during those hot summer months.
Pickleball is a rapidly growing sport enjoyed by people of all ages. Adding pickleball courts would provide a new recreational activity that's not just trendy but accessible to adults and children alike. It would encourage physical activity and community interaction in a fun and engaging way.
A splash pad, on the other hand, would be a refreshing escape for kids and parents during scorching summer days. Unlike traditional swimming pools, splash pads are safer, easier to maintain, and conserve water—a vital consideration given the increasing water restrictions our community faces.
It is only a matter of time before the excess grass at our park becomes a problem for water conservation, and as a parent within this community I feel it is important to have a say in what that transition should look like.
By making these changes, we not only cater to the recreational needs of current residents but also adequately prepare for the influx of new families. The park would transform into a comprehensive community hub that accommodates everyone's needs and promotes an active, healthy lifestyle for every age group.
Together, we can take this reasonable and necessary step to improve our park. Let's work together to enhance our community and the quality of family time spent in these treasured public spaces. Please sign this petition to urge our local council to prioritize these improvements and invest in our community's future.
