The Issue

Stan Wadlow Park is one of the largest and most used parks in the East York area, yet it currently lacks something that has become standard across Toronto: outdoor bodyweight (calisthenics) fitness equipment.

Parks south of the Danforth such as Withrow Park, Greenwood Park, Riversdale Park, and The Beaches all offer accessible outdoor fitness options for residents. This makes the absence of similar equipment at Stan Wadlow Park a noticeable gap, especially for a community with limited nearby gym options.

Outdoor bodyweight (calisthenics) fitness equipment provides free, accessible exercise opportunities for people of all ages, including youth, adults, and seniors. It promotes health, encourages active lifestyles, and creates a more inclusive and functional public space.

This initiative originated from discussions within the Danforth - EastYork - Woodbine Community (The “DEWC”) Facebook group, where many local residents expressed interest in seeing this added.

Community members have already begun reaching out through 311 and to the local Councillor’s office, and it has been confirmed that community support plays a key role in prioritizing projects like this.

As Stan Wadlow Park is already slated for redevelopment, this presents a timely opportunity to incorporate outdoor fitness infrastructure into the park’s future plans.

The goal of this petition is to demonstrate clear community support and share that directly with City staff and Councillors to help move this initiative forward. This petition has been created to simplify the process for community members to show their support in one place.

We are calling on the City of Toronto to include outdoor bodyweight (calisthenics) fitness equipment as part of the current or upcoming redevelopment of Stan Wadlow Park.

Thank you for your support! It only takes a moment to sign, but it can create a meaningful and lasting impact for the entire community.
