I recently just started commuting to SUNY Oneonta, and have had a few problems with parking, but today, 8/31/2022, was awful. I saw fights happening over single parking spots, people blocking one another in attempts to park between spaces or "get revenge" on someone due to road rage, many car accidents that nearly happened, and people getting out of their cars to verbally assault one another over parking spaces. I noticed as I was looking for a spot myself (it took me an hour to find ONE open space), there is always a nearly empty staff parking lot next door. Especially by Hulbert Hall and Alumni Field House. Now knowing that commuter students physical safety may be at risk, I am taking this into my own hands. Opening just one more lot, especially the nearly empty ones I mentioned previously, can save people a lot of time and decrease their risk of a verbal or physical altercation. This all happened before 11 am. Our days should not begin like this. To add, students decided to leave school and not go to classes because they had no where to put their cars. how are students supposed to be educated if they aren't provided an adequate place to park their car to go to class?
