The Issue

My partner witnessed something truly heartbreaking that no pet owner should ever have to experience. Their beloved cat was run over right in front of their eyes by a reckless driver speeding over 25 miles per hour within our neighborhood. This senseless loss could have been prevented with better awareness and caution on our roads.

Too many pets and wild animals are injured or killed by speeding vehicles in our neighborhoods and rural areas. This isn't just specific to our community but is a growing issue across many towns and cities where traffic control doesn’t account for the presence of animals. According to the Humane Society, millions of animals are hit by vehicles every year in the United States, causing needless suffering and heartache.

Animal crossing signs are an effective tool to alert drivers to the presence of wildlife and domestic animals, encouraging them to slow down and drive more carefully. They send a clear message that our communities care about the safety of both animals and people. Many areas have seen a significant decrease in animal-related accidents with the placement of these signs.

I propose that our local government allocate funds to install more animal crossing signs in neighborhoods and rural areas where wildlife and pets are especially vulnerable. It is a small step that can make a huge difference in preventing future tragedies like the one I experienced.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for safer roads for our beloved pets and protecting local wildlife. Together, we can urge city planners and local officials to prioritize this initiative and demonstrate that animal lives matter in our communities. Please sign this petition to make our neighborhoods safer for all.
