Add Financial Literacy as UMD Gen-Ed Course | Promote Financial Literacy at UMD

The Issue

Only 57% of adults in the United States are financially literate. As newfound adults and the next contributing members of society, this statistic should be appalling to you.

UMD can incorporate an introduction to financial knowledge into its curriculum by creating a Financial Literacy course that counts as a 3-credit Big Question General Education requirement. Why not learn wealth-building strategies and methods to maintain financial stability as a way to knock out your Gen-Ed requirements?

You are also advocating for UMD to openly advertise its financial literacy resources, which are currently tucked away on the Office of Student Financial Aid's website: Resources & Policies > Money Matters > Financial Literacy.
