Add COVID cautious filtering feature to dating apps!

The Issue

We appeal to the developers of dating apps to recognize the unique challenges faced by COVID cautious individuals and to take immediate action by implementing a COVID cautious filtering feature.

For those of us still taking COVID precautions, dating has become an almost impossible endeavor, and many have abandoned hope. One of the most important characteristics in a potential partner is that they are being similarly cautious, yet there is currently no way to filter for that in popular dating apps. This makes the apps almost entirely unusable for those who are immunocompromised, disabled, older, protecting vulnerable loved ones, or just concerned for long term health.

We are individuals who continue wearing masks in public spaces and avoiding large crowds to minimize the risk of exposure and transmission of this virus. This conscientious approach results in a distinct disadvantage, as we are excluded from the vast majority of public spaces and activities that traditionally foster romantic connections. Social media sites that are great for support and friendship can not provide a safe and easy way to meet potential love matches. The absence of suitable dating platforms to meet those who share our values and concerns deepens our isolation and loneliness.

A simple solution for this would be for these well-established apps, who already have a high number of users and smooth running platforms, to add a way to filter matches. This would prevent being constantly paired with people living a dramatically different and entirely incompatible lifestyle.

By incorporating such a filter, dating apps can:

  • Dramatically improve app usability. An entire subset of the population, including the most vulnerable, will once again be able to utilize popular dating platforms.
  • Enable meaningful connections by allowing us to connect only with individuals who share similar values and attitudes towards health and safety. This compatibility is an essential building block for any potential relationship.
  • Increase user confidence by showing us that our preferences and concerns are being acknowledged and respected.
  • Reduce negative interactions between users, as some people are very hostile toward those still taking precautions.

By signing this petition, to be delivered to app developers, you are demonstrating your support for a more inclusive, effective, and fulfilling online dating experience.

In addition to signing, please send messages through the “contact us” links on your favorite dating apps, directly asking them to implement this change.

Let's unite and ensure that online dating is an inclusive space where all of us have the opportunity to find love, companionship, and understanding.
