The Issue

When I was younger chess was a part of my life. I grew up learning from my dad and grandfather (who I still cannot beat to this day). They taught me everything I needed to know about chess.

As I grew older I realized that chess is more than just a game. It is a powerful tool, it sharpens your mind and increases your critical thinking skills, and can even help improve creativity. These are all very important values to me and I want to be able to share them with everyone in my community and school district.

That's why I started this petition.

Signing this petition will help me show the administrators, who I am contacting, that you care about this issue and you think it deserves to be considered and thought about.

Just saying "Adding chess to schools" seems a bit vague so lets break it down so you understand exactly what you are giving your support for.

My goal is to add chess as either:

-A 1-2 week unit at the end of the school year that would have instructed time and free play.

Or

-1-2 weeks worth of days spread out across the year also culminating in a tournament at the end of the year.

Each of these ideas has their ups and downs. Ultimately it is up to the school districts to decide which idea will suit their school better. But if you feel passionate enough please comment which idea you agree with most.

Thank you for taking time to read (And hopefully sign) my petition.
