The Issue

Every day, parents like me, who have special needs children, face an overwhelming sense of anxiety and fear when our children are at school. My child is non-verbal and autistic, which means they can't always communicate if something goes wrong or if someone mistreats them. I'm plagued by a constant worry as I hear stories on the news about special needs children being abused or even losing their lives. Our children deserve to learn in safe environments where they are protected and nurtured.

In recent years, numerous reports have surfaced of teachers abusing special needs students in educational settings. Such incidents are deeply troubling and highlight serious vulnerabilities in the system meant to support our children. With many of these children unable to express what happens during their school day, it's essential to find a way to ensure their safety without compromising their dignity.

Installing cameras in special education classrooms can provide a crucial safeguard. These cameras would not only help deter potential abuse but also allow parents to check in and ensure their child's well-being throughout the day. While privacy concerns must be addressed, we believe this measure is necessary for peace of mind and the protection of children who cannot advocate for themselves.

Statistics show that children with disabilities are more likely to face maltreatment and bullying within school environments. According to the National Children's Advocacy Center, children with disabilities are 3.4 times more likely to be abused. This is an unacceptable risk that we cannot allow to continue. By implementing a video monitoring system, schools can demonstrate their commitment to transparency and child safety.

Protecting our children should be a top priority for all educators, administrators, and policymakers. We call upon school districts to take concrete action by installing cameras, ensuring these children are safe, and building trust with parents who entrust their precious children to their care every day.

Let us unite and advocate for the safety and protection of all special needs students. Implementing cameras in special education classrooms is a practical step toward ensuring their security. Let's work together to create a safe and supportive learning environment.

Please join us in this important cause by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference for the future of our special needs children. Your support matters.
