Growing up as a part of the vast Armenian diaspora, I always felt the unique richness of our culture and language—the cornerstones of our identity. However, I was disheartened to find Armenian missing from Duolingo's language offerings. Duolingo, a globally recognized language learning platform, has the power to bridge the gap between our dispersed communities by providing a convenient and engaging way to learn and preserve our native tongue.

Armenian is a language spoken by approximately 6 to 7 million people worldwide, with communities thriving in the United States, Russia, France, and various other countries. Despite being the mother tongue of millions, many individuals of Armenian descent may not have the opportunity to learn it, especially in areas where Armenian schools are scarce. Duolingo could play a crucial role in fostering language retention and cultural connection by offering Armenian as part of its curriculum.

The inclusion of the Armenian language on a platform like Duolingo can make language learning accessible for those who cannot attend formal classes or access traditional learning resources. Providing Armenian on Duolingo would not only reinforce ties within the Armenian community but also introduce this beautiful language to learners worldwide, promoting cultural diversity and multilingualism.

Duolingo has successfully added other languages of cultural significance like Hawaiian and Navajo, proving their commitment to preserving and promoting languages. Armenian deserves a place among these; its complex, yet beautiful alphabet and historical significance would undoubtedly attract many enthusiasts.

Let's urge Duolingo to contribute to the survival and spread of the Armenian language. By learning Armenian, individuals can connect more deeply with their heritage and storytelling traditions, sparking a resurgence in language learning amongst the Armenian diaspora as well as non-Armenians who admire our culture.
