The Issue

On 05/06/2026  my family's life was abruptly shaken when a reckless driver lost control and crashed into the wall of our home on Woodville Highstreet. The damage was extensive, but what haunts me more is the thought of how much worse it could have been. My family (including my puppy) & multiple pedestrians were put at immense risk due to the reckless speeding that has become far too common on our street.

Woodville Highstreet, an area that's supposed to be a safe neighborhood, has witnessed six crashes this year alone—each one a harrowing confirmation of the growing need for serious traffic regulation. Speeding vehicles are not just damaging property; they are a constant threat to our community's safety, endangering pedestrians, cyclists, and residents alike.

Adding a speed camera on Woodville Highstreet is a straightforward and effective solution that has been proven in reducing speeding and preventing accidents in various areas. According to the National Road Safety Authority, areas equipped with speed enforcement cameras report a 30% reduction in fatal and serious injury crashes. These numbers cannot be ignored, especially when it is within our capacity to prevent future tragedies in our community.

Installing a speed camera would not only deter speeding drivers but would also contribute to creating a safer environment for all residents and visitors. This solution is practical, proactive, and in urgent need of enactment.

not only to implement speed cameras, but also to add additional metal barriers around the footpaths to make the passing pedestrians feel more safe whilst passing by. There is a lot of dog walkers walking up and down the street at various times of the day aswell as a direct route to the primary school on this road.

We implore local authorities to prioritize our community's safety and take immediate action by installing a speed camera on Woodville Highstreet, and adding additional barriers along the foot paths. Every passing day without appropriate action increases the risk of another horrific crash.

Please stand with me, my family, and our community in advocating for change and ensuring the safety of Woodville Highstreet by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference.
