Add a Community Skate Spot to the New Forest Acres Park Project!
The Issue
Forest Acres is getting a brand-new, six-acre park at the old Richland Mall site, and we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make it an inclusive space for everyone!
As the City Council finalizes the design plans before putting the project out for bid, we are petitioning city leaders to integrate a modest, modern concrete skate spot (roughly 2,000 to 3,000 square feet) into the park’s footprint.
Our goal is simple: to ensure our local youth, teenagers, and young adults have a safe, dedicated, and positive outlet to stay active. Skateboarding, rollerblading, bmx, and scootering are incredibly popular in our community, yet our kids currently have no designated place to ride. A skate spot bridges that gap for those who may not participate in traditional, organized team sports.
Why we need to act right NOW:
Fiscal Responsibility: By adding a skate feature into the current construction phase, the city can utilize the heavy machinery, grading, drainage infrastructure, and contractors already budgeted for the park. Building it later as a standalone project would cost taxpayers significantly more.
Low Maintenance: Unlike grass fields that require constant mowing, fertilizer, and watering, a professionally poured concrete skate spot requires virtually zero ongoing maintenance over its lifespan.
A Safe Space: Giving kids a designated area keeps them active in a safe, constructive environment and off commercial storefronts and sidewalks.
We want Forest Acres to lead the way in creating a truly multi-generational park. A small skate spot won't take away from the park's classic, green aesthetic—it will simply ensure that all of our community's youth are included in the city's future.
Please sign this petition to show the Forest Acres City Council that our community supports an active, inclusive, and forward-thinking park design!
