Add a 4-way stop or traffic light at Highway 37 and Irvington Road
The Issue
Every time I drive through the intersection of Highway 37 and Irvington/Texico Road in Dix, Illinois, I can't help but feel anxious. This intersection has become a notorious spot for long wait times, especially during peak hours, and the traffic doesn't seem to slow down. These factors make it both inconvenient and a potential hazard for anyone commuting through this area, including the families with children attending Rome Grade School.
When drivers approach this busy intersection, the lack of traffic control results in repeated problems, from extended waiting times to dangerous crossing conditions. It is particularly concerning during school hours when parents and school buses are transporting children back and forth. It’s not just an issue for convenience—it's about ensuring everyone's safety.
The reality is that the absence of proper traffic signals like a 4-way stop sign or a traffic light leads to confusion, risky maneuvers, and unfortunately, the constant possibility of accidents occurring. According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation, intersections without adequate traffic controlling measures are more susceptible to accidents and near-misses.
Incorporating a 4-way stop or a traffic light at this intersection would bring a much-needed solution. It would help regulate the flow of vehicles, reduce waiting times, and most importantly, improve the safety for all drivers and pedestrians. We need action before another accident happens, and our community is left dealing with the tragic consequences.
By signing this petition, you’re taking a step toward making our roads safer for everyone in Dix, Illinois, and ensuring a smoother commute for all who frequent this intersection. We urge the local authorities to prioritize this change and work toward a safer, more efficient road system. Please sign and share this petition with others in the community to create the momentum needed for change.
