Please don't allow China to export our Australian wild donkeys.

The issue

Recently, Alister Trier (the chief executive of the NT's Department of Primary Industry) has been receiving many enquiries from several Chinese company's, all wanting access to the wild donkeys in the Northern Territory. The Chinese are seeking the donkeys for their ever increasing demand for ejiao. Ejiao is a donkey hide gelatin, which is extracted by boiling donkey hides. Just this year, Mr Trier toured a donkey processing factory in the Shandog province of China. He stated that the demand for donkeys was incredible. The company in which they visited is currently processing 1 million donkeys a year, and plan to double that amount. The Chinese believe that there are huge numbers of donkeys roaming around the Northern Territory, when in fact this isn't the reality. The numbers of donkeys in the herds are no where near enough to handle the demand from China and raise risks of dramatically lowering the wild donkey population to a point where there are barely any. Although some see them as pests, and others didn't even know that they existed, please take the time to sign this petition so that collectively as a whole, we can ensure that our Australian wild donkeys remain alive, unharmed and not merely another live export for our own selfish economic profit.
