Activate AVTOP scheme for ALL victims of Israel-Hamas war

On Friday 2 February 2024, the Australian Government announced activation of the Australian Victim of Terrorism Overseas Payment (AVTOP) to support Australians who have been impacted by the 7 October 2023 Hamas attacks in Southern Israel.
This scheme offers one-off payments of up to $75,000 to all applicants, from a taxpayer-funded budget of $27.5 million. This exceeds the $20 million allocated to UNRWA in 2023/24, before funding was paused in the wake of allegations against UNRWA staff which have since been debunked and revised on multiple occasions.
Despite over 120 days of constant, ruthless assault, and despite a ruling from the International Court of Justice indicating likelihood of a genocide, the AVTOP scheme has not been extended to Australian-Palestinian survivors of IDF attacks or their relatives.
The grant should reflect Australian multiculturalism and present a fair stance. We call for the grant to be extended to both Jewish and Palestinian Australians from Israel and Gaza, rather than Israeli Australians alone.
