Action needed from local authorities for public safety in Garfield Street Community
Action needed from local authorities for public safety in Garfield Street Community
The issue
We residents of 31 Garfield Street, Wentworthville, 2145 are mostly comprised of families with children and elderly parents. The property at 31 Garfield Street is comprised of three blocks each facing the Cumberland Highway on at least one side of the block. Due to the huge size of the building with plenty of common spaces, there is an easy access from Cumberland Highway, Mildred Street, and Garfield Street. We as an owner and residents had already been facing multiple instances of mail theft. We have taken multiple steps to prevent it post-discussion within the Owner’s Corporation. We have had cases of theft in the past where the intruder was able to get access to the basement and stole things from storage cages. The Building Manager managed to get the CCTV footage too, and it was reported to the police. Things have recently escalated further post multiple break-ins into the apartments facing Cumberland Highway and things have been stolen. The residents are potentially being monitored since the break-ins usually happen in units where residents are not present.
The Concern:
The recent instances have caused panic among the residents, with us not feeling safe in our own homes. This fear is also high since these are households with vulnerable children and old people.
Action Needed/Suggestions:
We the residents of 31 Garfield street request the local authority to kindly take necessary action to minimize such activity.
It can range from civil patrol from local police departments to van patrol, especially during the evening time, night, and early morning time. Also we request council to permit our strata putting barb wires in the necessary places around the building.
Any action to help us in our predicament would be highly appreciated.
Below are some of the incidents that happened as per the building manager’s record as of 21/11/2023.
12.10.2022 Event no. E90752706
15.07.2023 Event no. E94231148
22.09.2023 Event no. E95126156
06.10.2023 I have asked for event no.
02.11.2023 Event no. E78920303
16.11.2023 Event no. E95625962
18.11.2023 Asked (between 8 pm to 11 pm)
19.11.2023 Ref. no 877951 (Provided to Crime stopper)
The Mailbox thefts are not part of the above list.
