A law being written for the U.S. House transportation committee is likely to wipe out the popular Transportation Enhancements (TE) program. That's bad news for everyone who believes we need bike trails and sidewalks and other alternatives to driving everywhere we go. TE has given us a decade of progress toward creating healthy alternative transportation throughout America. These projects cost way less than roads, they put people to work quickly, they help us conserve energy -- and by encouraging our friends and families to walk or ride bicycles they help us all stay healthy.
