The Issue

Take action to permanently protect wilderness in northern Idaho!

North Idaho is fortunate to still contain some large, intact areas of wild land, but none are permanently protected from development that would threaten their wilderness character. Over the past decade, diverse local support to safeguard one of these areas—the Scotchman Peaks—has been growing.

All three Bonner County commissioners, the Idaho Forest Group, the local chamber of commerce, business leaders, hunters, anglers, hikers, and conservationists have called for legislation that grants this special place wilderness protection. But a bill has yet to be introduced in Congress.

Idaho’s senators need to hear from you!

Looming above Lake Pend Oreille and the Clark Fork River in the Cabinet Mountains, Scotchman Peak is the highest point in Bonner County, Idaho, at more than 7,000 feet. Last May, Senator Jim Risch suggested that this beloved region was likely the next candidate for wilderness designation in his state.

Time is running out if we hope to award Scotchman Peaks the gold standard of public land protection this year. Please take a moment to contact Idaho’s senators today!
