styrofoamfreeac started this petition to ACJC students and teachers and

Everyday, ACJC's school canteen uses hundreds of Styrofoam plates and plastic utensils to serve students.

For example, the "Pig and Chick" Chicken Rice stall auntie said that they use Styrofoam plates so that as they do not need to wash plates and cutlery, but it is extremely damaging to the environment, especially when used in such large quantity every day.

Styrofoam is not biodegradable and cannot be recycled. It takes at least 500 years to degrade Styrofoam! Plus, Styrofoam isn't just bad for the environment; it's bad for our health! It contains Styrene which is a harmful chemical that can leech into our food and drink.

Many students actually frown on the use of Styrofoam, but as the stalls do not offer any other alternatives, students have no choice but to use the styrofoam plates as well. The other stalls in the ACJC canteen either use brown plastic paper with a tray or normal plates and metal utensils.

With initiatives such as strawfreeac and more environmental awareness in our school, let's make the simplest and easiest change to make ACJC more eco-friendly by replacing the Styrofoam plates with proper re-usable plates.

Through this petition, we hope that the school can encourage the stall owners to replace their styrofoam plates with normal plates so that we continue to support the chicken rice stall and enjoy their delicious chicken rice happily!

Make a change just by signing this petition which will be sent to the principals of the school! One signature from you can make a difference :)
