ACCOUNTABILITY IN BURR RIDGE POLICING — DUI DEPUTY CHIEF HUSARIK

On April 13, 2024, Burr Ridge Deputy Police Chief RYAN HUSARIK was driving an unmarked Burr Ridge police vehicle when he was stopped for erratic driving by Virginia state troopers. HUSARIK was in the area attending a two-months-long FBI training session at taxpayers’ expense. HUSARIK failed a field sobriety test, and was later found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.207 (according to the arrest record), 2 1/2 times over the legal limit. According to the arrest record, multiple half-empty liquor bottles were found in the squad’s trunk along with his department-issued weapon. Two small bottles of vodka were found in the pocket of HUSARIK’s shorts as was an MGM Casino card. He admitted to the troopers he had been gambling at a casino an hour away from the FBI training center.
The above-linked article carries the full arrest report. At the time of his arrest, HUSARIK was still in a “probationary period” as deputy police chief having been recently promoted into that position.
The undersigned believe that HUSARIK should resign his post as a Burr Ridge Deputy Chief. We do not believe that the Village handed down a stiff-enough “punishment” for the severity of the intoxication and the dereliction of duty while representing Burr Ridge: HUSARIK only received a 40-day suspension without pay.
The undersigned also want answers as to why a Village-owned, and taxpayer-financed, police vehicle was out of state in HUSARIK’s possession for about a month and therefore out of service for police use in the Village of Burr Ridge.
WE THE UNDERSIGNED CALL ON MAYOR GARY GRASSO AND THE VILLAGE BOARD TO RELIEVE DEPUTY CHIEF RYAN HUSARIK OF HIS DUTIES PERMANENTLY, AND TO INVESTIGATE THE CONDUCT OF POLICE CHIEF JOHN MADDEN, JR. FOR HIS ROLE IN, AND OVERSIGHT OF, THE MATTER.
