Accessible Air Travel For All

Accessible Air Travel For All
The Issue
No one deserves the indignity of having to be carried on and off aircraft, or from their seat to the bathroom and back.
We, the undersigned, call on United Airlines Chief Executive Scott Kirby and United’s full executive team, to make accessibility a priority when purchasing new aircraft, or retrofitting aircraft in its current fleet (in December 2023 United Airlines announced the future purchase of up to 100 aircraft).
Accessibility for all includes, but is not limited to: accessible bathrooms, wheel chair space seating systems, and ergonomically designed aisle chairs on all aircraft for the movement of passengers unable to walk to and from bathrooms.
At present as no commercial aircraft have installed already developed and safety tested wheelchair spot seating systems, all passengers unable to walk are manhandled onto and off aircraft, and into and from their seats, in flimsy, uncomfortable and dangerous aisle chairs.
The only obstacle to having fully accessible features implemented on United Airlines is Scott Kirby and his Boards reluctance to do so.
Research shows that the implementation of accessible features would not have adverse effects on airline income, but could in fact, increase revenue as it would encourage more of the estimated 15 percent of the population who are disabled, to travel, or travel more.
The undersigned also call on Scott Kirby to publicly announce a timeline for working with aircraft manufacturers for the implementation of the accessible features outlined in this petition, paving the way for true accessible air travel for all.
