Accessibility for UCLA North Campus
The Issue

To whom it may concern,
My name is Kimberly Miller and I am a first year Theater Major, Acting Emphasis. I am writing to you on behalf of the disabled persons in the Theater, Film and Television department. Although I am able-bodied, I believe that everyone, regardless of their physical ability, deserves equal access to public spaces.
It has come to my attention that much like the UCLA campus, the buildings in North Campus are not ADA accessible. Specifically in Macgowan, the infrastructure falls short of accommodating individuals with limited mobility or disabilities.
In walking the buildings of North Campus, I put myself in the shoes of someone who needs a wheelchair or rollator to get around. I am disappointed with the lack of accessibility. People with limited mobility lose independence as most places require assistance from another person. In addition, there are long distances that require physical exertion that a disabled person should not be expected to endure.

In implementing improvements to these locations and beyond, the space will enhance the inclusivity for everyone in our major by providing equal opportunity. Without these developments, disabled persons lose their independence and are required to exert themselves to an exhausting degree. They deserve the same resources that able-bodied persons have access to. It enriches the community by promoting all genders, cultures, and dignity for individuals of all abilities.
