I've always dreamed of giving my children a bright future, one where they can breathe clean air, enjoy lush green parks, and know the beauty of nature undisturbed. But the reality we faced last week showed we’re heading for catastrophe instead. The extreme weather events are no longer rare and isolated; they are becoming the norm and are a stark reminder of the changing climate.

The science is irrefutable: if we continue on our current path, the frequency and severity of these extreme weather events will only increase, threatening the very world we want for our kids. As a parent of two small children, I am deeply concerned about the legacy we are leaving for them. I refuse to stand idly by while their future is at risk.

The UK's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 is commendable, but the time to act is now. Delays in taking decisive steps towards cutting carbon emissions will only exacerbate the problem. According to the Committee on Climate Change, the UK is not currently on track to meet its 2050 target, and urgent action is required across all sectors to ensure a sustainable future.

And we’re already seeing that this is a disaster. Hospitals declared critical incidents, our schools closed and transport systems suffered. Without actin, it will only get worse. But there’s still time,  if we get serious about tackling the problem and invest in delivering the solutions that we already have.

Here's what we need: increased investment in renewable energy sources, stricter regulations on carbon emissions, and comprehensive climate policies that hold industries accountable. Local governments must be given the resources they need to implement green initiatives effectively, while public transportation systems should be improved and incentivized to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

This petition is a call to the UK government to accelerate its net zero ambitions. Implement the necessary policies and frameworks immediately, and prioritize the restoration of natural ecosystems. We need to keep momentum going, even when the temperature drops a few degrees and we breathe a sigh of relief.
