Make “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” Eligible for the Oscars

Make “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” Eligible for the Oscars
The Issue
Because of arbitrary and unfair rules, only one song from the hit film ENCANTO - “Dos Orugitas” made it to the eligibility round for the Oscars.
Granted Disney and composer Lin-Manuel Miranda played by the "rules", but how were they to know which two songs should be submitted by November 1st well before the movie even came out and the public let them know which resonated with them best?
"We Don't Talk about Bruno" hit Number 1 on the billboard charts but cannot even be nominated for an Oscar. The album is also number 1 knocking off Adele. As of January 17th, 5 songs are in the top 100 and none are Dos Orugitas which arguably is a gorgeous song and absolutely should be nominated, too. Can you imagine if "A Whole New World" "Can you feel the love tonight?" "Let it Go" also missed a chance to get nominated even though they are the only other ones to crack the top 5? Here's the full list of Disney songs that won Best Original Song.
When you have a due date by November 1st, any movie released after that will never know know which song would be the most popular and which should be used for campaigns. It's not the same as Actors which is November 15th and there's no limit to who they submit for awards. Click here for full schedule
When you release a movie during the holidays it would be fairer if they waited until after the year ended to choose what movie songs could be eligible?
THEY DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT BRUNO? Well we need to make them change their rules!
BELOW are the actual rules that don’t make sense. Click here for the full Academy Rules.
FIRST RULE TO CHANGE: “Submissions may be made prior to the film’s Los Angeles County qualifying run but must be made no later than 60 days after such opening, or by the submission deadline of 5 p.m. PT on Monday, November 1, 2021, whichever comes first. New submissions will not be accepted beyond this date; however, for existing submissions an extension may be granted at the Academy’s discretion only for the purposes of delivery of supplemental materials such as video clips or final cue sheets.”
WHY CHANGE IT? Why is the arbitrary date for submission of Original Song on November 1 when movies that are holiday movies don’t get a fair chance to see if their film’s songs take off? The deadline should be January 15th of the following year.
SECOND RULE TO CHANGE: “No more than two songs from any one film by the exact same writers may be shortlisted. If more than two songs from a film by the exact same writers are in contention, the two songs with the most votes will advance to the shortlist. However, no more than two songs from any one film, regardless of writers, may be nominated for the Original Song award.”
WHY CHANGE IT? If a movie comes out that has three iconic songs or more why should that be penalized? Sorry but Wizard of Oz had how many genius songs? Just because one film’s music just happens to be better than all other submissions should not be penalized because of a rule that is unfair to each song’s merits. If Abbey Road had been a movie, wouldn’t we be up in arms if not all 5 slots weren’t filled by them?
