ACADEMIC SYSTEM IN UNIVERSIDAD DE ZAMBOANGA SHOULD BE MORE CONSIDERATE WITH ONLINE CLASSES
The Issue
Online classes serve as the best option for an alternative learning method as regular classes are suspended, and community quarantine in Zamboanga City is declared in response to COVID-19 outbreak. However, due to some circumstances, the University, University Administrators, Professors and Instructors of the Universidad de Zamboanga should be more considerate as:
1. The suspension of the regular classes and the sudden shift to online classes require an area of adjustment, and due to its abruptness, no one, including the professors and students, had anticipated nor prepared to face the said consequences, and with the community quarantine placed in Zamboanga city, gadgets, internet connection, and other materials necessary for online learning may be unprepared.
2. Students who wish to participate in online classes may have to go outdoors to buy load for internet connection, or rent computers in internet cafes, thus, giving them an exposure and susceptibility to the COVID-19 outbreak.
3. Many students who have went to their respective hometowns or provinces, and those who live a considerably far distance from the city proper have poor internet connection, thus, disabling or reducing their participation in the said online classes.
4. Some students are not completely equipped with the necessary materials for online classes as some do not have laptops or appropriate gadgets.
5. Schedules for online quizzes and other activities are impulsive, unorganized, and non-systematic as sudden shift had been made and the curriculum is appropriately made for regular classes.
6. Financial aspect hinders the online learning experience of some students as Zamboanga City is currently under community quarantine, therefore acquiring less financial sources.
With the concerns mentioned above, we, the students of the Universidad de Zamboanga, would like to pursue learning and cooperate with the university's standards under any given situations, provided that we humbly seek the help of our professors to be more considerate to those who struggle to keep up with the online classes system.
