To stop the online studies at Mbarara University of Science and Technology
The Issue
Pay Attention to these points before you plan to resume semester 2 Academic
year 2019/2020 as dictated by the top university administration, academic registrar and a few faculty deans.
- We will have only had total 11 weeks (7 pre-covid oncampus study, 4 for LMS) for study instead of the usual 15 weeks of full time lecture room study with all university resources and classmates to discuss with
- Most lecturers that we have interacted with are not in full agreement with this uncertain resumption of studies, it must have been a decision of top university administration. How unfair can that be!
- The examination grading system has not been revised. • Brace yourselves then! It's still the 50% to avoid a retake.
- It's still the 3 failed coursed units a year to repeat the year. Missing any of the exams can still cause discontinuation from the university
- Despite the great semester one performance, it's still the Cumulative GPA being used. Your entire year, your entire academic period ( 3 years, 4 years, 5 years ), your entire career, your pending scholarship, your job can all be messed up by this unfriendly/inconsiderate completion of the semester that's planned to resume with no clear rules.
- We risk being at the mere mercy of The Academic Registrar and faculty deans yet ought to have power over our results fate.
- Within what period will students sit for "re-take examinations?"
- When will the examination results be published ? Will the students have enough time to appeal ?
- When will the next academic year resume? Will it be in harmony with the annual national education budget that runs from June to may of the following year? Will it be in harmony with the new secondary school academic calendar?
- What financial budget is being used? Is it part of the 2019/2020 financial budget or is it completely a new budget 2020/2021?
