Abortion Should Be Legal

Abortion Should Be Legal

The Issue

Summary

Abortion is illegal/banned and its causing harm to women and some of the babies they are being forced to give birth to. Women and girls as young as 6 (possibly younger) and up are being forced to give birth to babies they probably conceived from rape and it is killing them. Its forcing them to do backdoor abortions which harms them. Abortion being banned isn't stopping women from abortion fetuses, its only forcing us to do it in a harmful and unsafe way. It's forcing young children to be mothers. Children should not be raising children

Rates

More than 50% of women have been getting injured from backdoor abortion methods because and ever since abortion became illegal. An estimated 443,635 people age 12 or older experience sexual violence each year in the U.S.. Another estimate suggests approximately 463,634 victims of sexual assault annually. That's a possible 463,634 forced births. A good portion of that is CHILDREN too. Why are we forcing children to raise babies? Children should not be forced to raise children. Before abortion became legalized nationwide by Roe v. Wade in 1973, it is estimated that hundreds of thousands, and potentially over a million, illegal or self-induced abortions occurred annually in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Scholars estimate that roughly 20% to 25% of all pregnancies ended in abortion during that era. That means that many women and children got raped. And since abortion is now illegal, just that many women and children are stuck with those babies as reminders and burdens. Men don't get shamed or punished for leaving their pregnant partner (which is like the equivalent of a woman aborting a baby). Women get shamed for aborting or ‘leaving’ their baby, but men dont if they leave the woman with the baby.

Argument

I very strongly disagree with abortion being illegal. Many people think that abortion should be illegal, and I understand that they are trying to protect unborn lives-but it gets to a point. Like what about all the other kids in foster care and you’re they seem to be more worried about a fetus. And it’s not always protecting the fetus because let's say the mother got forced into giving birth or got rap3d and may not have enough money so then the baby would suffer and live a bad life. Or if the mother is mentally unstable. In a debate this one anti abortion man said that if his 6 year daughter got rap3d and got pregnant with a baby that he would make her deliver it. That is extremely traumatizing for the child and can even kill them. Forcing girls and women to live with their rapists babies is extremely traumatizing and even lead to them not loving the baby and neglecting it because it is just a reminder of what happened. This is too extreme for just ‘protecting an unborn life’. And abortions aren't just getting rid of babies. Getting rid of a tumor in your uterus is also considered an abortion and if that's illegal then the woman can die. It's her body, and if she doesn’t want to give birth she should not be forced to do it. At this point it doesn't feel like protecting unborn lives, it feels like control over women's bodies. It is not their (men’s) business what a woman does with her body. They don’t even have a uterus so why should they even have a say. I understand and respect that they are trying to protect unborn lives, and I don’t like people using abortion as a type of birth control but it seems they are only looking at it from one point of view and not multiple situations. And the extent they are taking it too is way too far and extreme and goes farther than protecting a fetus. And they seem to ignore the children in foster care. It feels like they care more about a clump of cells that isn't even born yet than the hundreds of thousands of children in foster care. This forces girls and women to risk harming themselves to do backdoor abortion methods. Even if you make it illegal women will still do it but just in a way that harms themselves. Also, forcing a woman to give birth even though it might kill her is insane. She has so much more meaning, purpose, memories, and matters more to the people in her life and who she loves than the fetus. Women deserve to be put and valued before unborn lives and fetuses.
