Abolishing anti-free speech laws in Singapore and dropping charges against Amos Yee

Abolishing anti-free speech laws in Singapore and dropping charges against Amos Yee

The Issue

Dear Lee Hsien Loong (Prime Minister of Singapore)

We demand you drop all sedition charges against Amos Yee and issue a public apology for charging Amos, imprisoning him before, and causing fear and distress to him and his family. We also demand you abolish these anti-free speech laws.

These laws have been used to push the Singapore government’s political agenda, and have been abused on anti-government individuals to silence dissent, but conveniently ignores the ones who commit a similar offence, who are pro-government or foreigners: The PAP has Abused the Law to Persecute Amos Yee but Protect its Own Members.

Article 14 of the Constitution of Singapore ‘guarantees the citizens of Singapore the rights to freedom of speech and expression. Amos is protected by the constitution and should thus be acquitted of all charges.

These laws and the arrest of Amos is a complete embarrassment and disgrace to Singapore. We hope the Singapore government admits it’s mistake, and rectifies the matter.
