Abolish Uniform in Chitkara University
Abolish Uniform in Chitkara University
The Issue
Chitkara University's current policy mandates students to wear uniforms. While uniforms claim to promote equality and unity, they also suppress individuality and self-expression – vital aspects of all students' development. Punjab, a cultural hotspot of India, is legendary for its rich and diverse array of traditional attire, including phulkari designs and patiala suits. By imposing a uniform system, we are not only disregarding our cultural heritage, but are also infringing on our students' right to express themselves.
Moreover, allowing students to wear casual attire can have positive impacts on their mental health and motivation. A study conducted by the University of Nevada, Reno found that students feel more confident and comfortable when allowed to wear clothes of their choice (University of Nevada, 2012). By continuing to enforce a uniform policy, we may be unknowingly fostering a bleak academic environment, where students feel restricted rather than inspired.
Our request is to abolish the uniform mandate at Chitkara University and give students the freedom to wear what they want. This is not to undermine the ideals of respect and restraint; it is to promote personal growth, self-expression, and cultural diversity. Join us in urging the university administration to reconsider their stance on uniforms. Sign the petition now.
