Abolish the Single Yellow Line to Increase Parking Availability

The Issue

I am a resident of Dalby Square, Margate, and like many of you, I continually struggle to find parking near my home. To make matters worse, this issue has led to numerous parking fines. Our streets are lined with single yellow lines - a daily roadblock preventing us from parking close to our residences. This lack of local parking is impacting our daily lives and causing undue stress and financial burden.

As per the UK Highway Code rule 238, parking is restricted at certain times on roads with single yellow lines. This rule exacerbates the existing scarcity of parking spaces in residential areas like ours in Margate. Removing these yellow lines will significantly increase the availability of parking, reducing the hardships faced by many residents like myself.

Town planners and our local council must find a balanced solution that meets the needs of residents and traffic needs. Open up our streets to increased parking by removing the single yellow lines. Let's advocate for changes in policy and ensure that the need for residential parking is taken into account in urban planning.

Thanet Council need to understand that the removal of extra parking that was replaced with plants and a rockery has to be compensated with suitable parking as a replacement.
I have been personally advised to avoid using the parking above the row of businesses (Bugsys etc) at the end of the square as it has not been deemed as safe to hold a large number of vehicles, leaving the parking situation completely unreasonable.

The road can safely fit 2 cars passing by each other with room for movement either side while there are cars parked, Thus the single yellow line being completely unnecessary.

Please join me in demanding this change to improve our quality of life. Sign this petition to urge our local council in Thanet to remove the single yellow lines restricting residential parking.
