As students, we are more than just our uniforms and our adherence to strict school policies. We are individuals with unique identities, cultural backgrounds, and personal expressions. One significant way we express ourselves is through our hairstyles. However, the current hair policy of DEPed severely limits this form of self-expression.

For instance, long hair holds deep cultural meaning in many indigenous communities as a symbol of strength and wisdom.

Moreover, studies have shown that allowing students to express their individuality can lead to increased self-esteem and improved academic performance (American Psychological Association). Yet, despite these findings, DEPed continues to enforce a restrictive hair policy.

We believe it's time for change - a change that respects each student's right to express themselves freely without fear of retribution or marginalization; a change that acknowledges the rich tapestry of cultures represented within our schools; a change that values diversity over conformity.
