Abolish the Restrictive Dress Code at Etowah High School

The Issue

As members of the Etowah High School community in Woodstock, GA, we find our current dress code to be both restrictive and sexist. We believe this dress code unfairly targets female students and limits our personal expression. Its stringent rules often lead to perplexing outfits and unnecessary shame or embarrassment among students, which hinders our learning environment.

Statistics show that strict dress codes can have a negative impact on students' self-esteem and academic performance. According to a study by the National Education Association, students under stringent dress codes often feel unjustly targetted leading to increased stress and decreased academic engagement.

We must be allowed to dress appropriately for school in a way that does not diminish our femininity nor our individuality. Proper revision of the dress code at Etowah High School can lead to an environment that respects personal freedom while paving the way for high academic achievement and a positive learning environment.

The journey to equality begins with small steps. Changing the dress code could act as a launchpad towards a more equal society that respects personal freedom and human dignity. Junior and senior high school are time periods of personal growth and exploration. We request the school administration to revise the dress code policies and provide students with a more comfortable and accepting learning environment.

Thus, we urge you to sign this petition to end the overbearing dress code at Etowah High School, promoting a more egalitarian and inclusive environment for all students. Stand with us in making change possible. Sign the petition today!
