Abolish the Pink Tax in Pennsylvania

The Issue

We are Sistahs, a student group comprised of Women of Color at Germantown Friends School in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. Our mission is to uplift and support women in our school community. One issue that has personally affected us and women throughout Pennsylvania is the "Pink Tax".

The Pink Tax refers to the inflated cost of products and services marketed to women.  Items include toiletries, toys, and clothing. On average, products marketed toward women cost 7% more than those marketed toward men. This tax disproportionately affects low-income women who already struggle with economic inequality.

States such as California and New York have eliminated the Pink Tax entirely. While states like  Virginia and Maine have taken steps toward abolishing taxes on tampons, menstrual products, and diapers. However, Pennsylvania has not taken any steps toward addressing the issue. We believe it’s time for Pennsylvania to take a stand and abolish the Pink Tax.

We urge you to join us in calling on our local government officials such as Senator Art Haywood and Mayor Cherelle Parker to end this discriminatory pricing practice. It's time we level the playing field for all consumers regardless of gender.

Please sign this petition if you believe in fair pricing and equality. Together we can make a difference!
