The issue

For those of us living in City of Casey, our homes are more than just buildings; they are a reflection of our freedom, serving as personal sanctuaries where we should be able to undertake private activities without interference. With this in mind, it is deeply unsettling that the City of Casey Administrators decided in June that even as ratepayers, we now have to pay for permits to complete certain activities on our private land.

From storing or repairing a recreational vehicle to servicing vehicles on private land, the permit requirement is applied indiscriminately, even for non-commercial purposes. It becomes worrying that we can only store a shipping container for up to 90 days on our own land with a permit.

It is vital to recognize the imposition this decision places on homeowners. It contradicts the core principle of private property rights, under which we should have the right to use our land as we see fit without governmental intervention, as long as we aren't causing harm or nuisance to others. This decision also reflects a breach of trust from city administrators who should aim to protect ratepayers' interests, not penalize them.

We call upon the City of Casey Council to reconsider this permit requirement. Let's stand together to protect our rights and freedoms associated with private land use. As homeowners and active community members, we demand an immediate review of this regulation.

If you want to conduct any of the following activities on private land, you will need a permit.

Storing or repairing a recreational vehicle
Storing a shipping container (up to 90 days)
Storing long heavy vehicles (If you intend to park more than 1 long heavy vehicle on private land, please consult our planning team).
Storing unregistered vehicles (up to 90 days)
Storing a skip bin
Putting up temporary dwellings (no more than 14 days in any 60-day period)
Dismantle, repair or service vehicles on private land (non-commercial)
