Get rid of the not proven verdict in Scotland

The Issue

The legal implications of a not proven verdict are exactly the same as a not guilty verdict – the accused is acquitted and is innocent in the eyes of the law. Not proven is seen by some as offering additional protection to the accused, ensuring they will not be convicted if the jury has any doubts. So not a lot of people know this although it’s been a verdict Scotland had held for many years and it’s the only country that still carries a verdict of not proven. Why have a jury then? Why also not tell the jury prior that there is a not proven law or even victims until the verdict is waved. This is one of the most horrific truths I have ever encountered and it was told to me as the perpetrator walked free, along with this is not publicised in the media allowing the accused to walk claiming that he was found not guilty. I would like to raise this petition to abolish  Scotlands not proven law, even if it doesn’t work I would like at the very least for people to be aware of this. Please sign and give victims a fair outcome in some of the worst high court cases there are. Thank you
