Abolish the Mandatory $1Million Insurance for Tier 2 Solar in Florida

Abolish the Mandatory $1Million Insurance for Tier 2 Solar in Florida
The Issue
As a resident of Florida, solar energy use is more than a convenience—it's a necessity facilitated by the ample sunshine this region enjoys. However, the current legislation is ironically forcing consumers to remain dependent on for-profit utility companies. The mandate of the tier 2 solar requirement for a $1 million PLP is not only anti-consumer but also anti-environment. There is no tangible evidence to substantiate the risk that this law purportedly mitigates. Yet, it inexplicably encourages consumers to install smaller solar systems than they might need or want.
This anti-progressive legislation curtails the use of renewable energy sources, suppressing energy independence for ordinary consumers in favor of large utility corporations. By doing so, Florida, a state touting freedom, ironically undermines freedom of energy choice for its citizens. Green energy should not be a privilege made inaccessible by onerous requirements, but a right accessible to all, free from overbearing legislation.
The United States has the potential for large increases in solar power, with Florida standing as one of the sunniest states. Sunlight offers an incredible resource for electricity generation through photovoltaics and concentrated solar power. Despite this, Florida currently lags in harnessing this abundant resource due to its existing legislation. The suppression of consumer energy independence does not align with Florida’s sunshine wealth.
I urge the Florida legislature to reevaluate and abolish the tier 2 solar requirement for the $1 million Personal Liability policy. Doing so will pave the way for an increased adoption of solar power and promote energy independence among Floridians. Help us to live by the sentiment of freedom that Florida espouses. Support this petition to compel change and to free Florida from the grips of for-profit utility companies. Sign this petition now for a greener, energy-independent Florida.
