Abolish the IRS – Urge Congress to Pass the IRS Abolition and ERS Act

The Issue

We must urge Congress now to rethink our nation’s tax system. The current IRS is outdated, overly complex, and burdensome. The U.S. tax code exceeds 4 million words, creating confusion, errors, and unnecessary penalties for Americans. This complexity affects everyone, from individual taxpayers to small business owners, and even larger organizations, slowing economic growth and diverting valuable time and resources away from productive activities.

The IRS Abolition and ERS Act (Internal Revenue System and Equitable Revenue Service Act) proposes to abolish the IRS and replace it with a modern, transparent, and efficient system. This reform would reduce the administrative burden on individuals and small businesses, allow for faster and fairer processing, and provide a clear, understandable structure for all taxpayers. By supporting this act, Congress can help ensure a tax system that works for the American people rather than against them.

Countries with simpler, more transparent tax systems have seen greater compliance, higher economic growth, and increased prosperity. The United States has the opportunity to lead by example, setting a standard for fairness, efficiency, and accountability.

Personal story:
As a real estate landlord, I experience firsthand how complicated and burdensome our tax system has become. Every decision, from buying or selling property to investing in improvements to renting to tenants, is deeply influenced by the IRS and the complex rules it enforces. The constant worry about making a mistake or triggering penalties can affect not only my business, but the financial well-being of the families and communities I serve.

Simplifying the tax system would allow individuals and small businesses like mine to focus on growth, innovation, and community development, rather than spending countless hours navigating confusing forms and regulations. With over 4 million words in the U.S. tax code, it’s clear our current system is no longer workable. A simpler system would give Americans confidence that they can comply fairly and spend their time creating value rather than battling bureaucracy.
