Abolish the Fall Back and Maintain Spring Forward Time in Colorado

The Issue

My family and I are residents of Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA. We suffer from fibromyalgia, a condition that is significantly affected by sunlight exposure. The onset of darkness exacerbates our pain and mental health issues. This is not just our story but also the reality for many others dealing with similar medical conditions.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) was introduced over 100 years ago as a way to conserve energy during World War I. However, recent studies suggest that DST has minimal impact on energy savings. Moreover, it has been observed that the "fall back" transition can lead to negative health impacts due to disrupted sleep patterns and reduced exposure to daylight.

The state of Arizona has already abolished DST due to its unique desert climate and we believe it's time for Colorado to consider a similar change given its high altitude environment which affects sunlight availability.

By maintaining "spring forward" all year round in Colorado, we can ensure more daylight hours during the late afternoon and evening times when most people are awake. This will not only benefit those suffering from conditions like fibromyalgia but also contribute towards overall public well-being by reducing seasonal depression rates often linked with early sunset times.

We urge lawmakers in Colorado Springs and across the state of Colorado to consider this change seriously for the betterment of our community's physical and mental health.

Please sign this petition if you support abolishing fall back time adjustments in favor of permanent spring forward time in Colorado.
