Abolish SCAD's "FILM314 - Mastering AI Tools for Filmmakers" Class
The Issue
The Savannah College of Art & Design, located in Savannah, Georgia, is continuing to push a new AI agenda onto its students. It wasn't too long ago that they introduced a whole new major focused on AI, and now they're trying to push those practices onto the film & television majors of the school, which make up a large sum of its population.
The beauty about art is the human touch behind it. AI can never replicate the same passion that humans can put into an art piece. Whether it be a film, a song, or a painting, AI can never do what we humans can do when it comes to tapping into the emotions, that make us human, for the sake of making art.
As of today, May 11, 2026, SCAD is introducing a brand new class, titled "FILM314 - Mastering AI Tools for Filmmakers". It is supposed to teach film students how to properly integrate AI into their work. While some may believe this could be beneficial, as it could eliminate some of the tedious elements of filmmaking, in reality, any filmmaker knows that those parts are what truly make filmmaking a magical process. The late nights on set, the postproduction process, the scheduling. It may be a pain right now, but when your film is finally done, and you're sitting down to watch the final cut for the very first time, you realize that the blood, sweat, and tears were all worth it in the end. That it was makes filmmaking so magical.
AI has absolutely no place in filmmaking, or any art form for that matter. We, as artists, need to do what we can to make sure that every single aspect of filmmaking is human, and remains human. That is why I am asking for your signature. If we reach a decent sum of signatures, we will take this to D.W. Moffett, the Chair of the Film & Television department, and other heads in the film department, and reason with them to eliminate this class.
