The Issue

Being a Latino in the United States, I experience firsthand the fears and challenges faced by others within my community every day. It is distressing to see families torn apart, people living in constant fear of being uprooted from the lives they have worked so hard to build, and the anxiety that hangs over those who simply seek a brighter future for their families.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has a long history of using aggressive and often questionable tactics. These methods result in a climate of fear and distrust among immigrants and wider communities. According to Human Rights Watch, ICE has been complicit in thousands of cases of inhumane treatment ranging from excessive use of force to wrongful detentions.

Moreover, studies by the American Immigration Council highlight that immigration enforcement practices have tangible negative impacts on local economies and community safety. ICE raids instill fear in immigrants, making them less willing to report crimes or cooperate with local law enforcement, thus, decreasing overall public safety. This reality only perpetuates a vicious cycle of distrust and endangerment.

Abolishing ICE isn't about having open borders—it's about reevaluating the system to ensure immigrants are treated with dignity and respect, and developing more humane and efficient ways to address immigration concerns. By dismantling ICE, government resources can be redirected towards community-based solutions that foster trust and cooperation between immigrants and enforcement agencies.

We have the power to change this outdated and punitive system. Systems of support and respect without fear of deportation will not only protect immigrant families but also create a more harmonious and safe environment for all of us. Join me in speaking out for those who fearlessly seek opportunity and safety in the U.S.

Sign this petition to urge our leaders to take decisive action in abolishing ICE, and help us protect and build stronger, more united communities.
