Abolish Council Tax and Improve Public Services

Abolish Council Tax and Improve Public Services
The Issue
I was born into a system that I did not choose, yet it has the power to dictate my financial obligations. Every year, like many others, I am forced to pay an average of £1500 in council tax. This money is supposedly used for leisure and recreation projects, maintaining parks and sports centres, libraries and education services, rubbish collection and disposal as well as transport and highway services. However, despite this significant annual contribution from each household in the UK, we are witnessing a great decline in the standard of these public services.
Council tax is not just an additional burden on our finances; it feels like theft when we consider how poorly our funds are managed. The threat of third-party companies being sent to collect these funds only adds insult to injury.
In 2019/2020 alone, local authorities in England collected approximately £33 billion from council tax (source: Office for National Statistics). Yet despite this staggering amount of revenue generated annually from households across the country - hardworking individuals who contribute their fair share - there seems to be no improvement or even maintenance of quality in public services.
We must question where our money is going if not towards improving or at least maintaining these essential community resources? It's time for change; it's time we demand transparency about where our taxes are spent. We need a system that respects us as more than just another number contributing towards its revenue.
Please sign this petition calling for an end to council tax until there is clear evidence showing improved standards in public service delivery funded by these taxes.
