Abolish Capital Punishment in the United States

Abolish Capital Punishment in the United States
The Issue
I believe it is impossible to give jurors the right to decide who deserves to be murdered in the form of capital punishment and who deserves to be rehabilitated. Every year, many innocent individuals are falsely accused and convicted, with some being executed. The 8th Amendment states cruel and unusual punishment. Every person deserves to be treated with humanity. People do want to get better.
An example is this: A school shooter takes 17 lives and gets 25 years in prison with parole because he is white. This disparity highlights the inherent biases within our justice system.
Capital punishment does not deter crime more effectively than life imprisonment, according to numerous studies (source: National Research Council). Moreover, since 1973, over 170 people have been exonerated from death row due to wrongful convictions (source: Death Penalty Information Center).
It’s time for us as a society to move towards rehabilitation rather than retribution. Sign this petition if you believe in ending capital punishment and promoting a more just legal system for all.
