Bring Galavant to Blu-Ray and DVD

Bring Galavant to Blu-Ray and DVD
The Issue
These past two Januarys, I and millions of others always looked forward to Sunday night at 8 PM not for The Simpsons, the Golden Globes or even the Football games, but for a hilarious musical adventure series called Galavant. And while it wasn't the MOST watched series of all time, anyone who took the time to watch both seasons, ESPECIALLY live, will tell you it was a very unique viewing experience.
Created by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love., Tangled, The Neighbors) with songs written by Academy Award-winner Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid) and Glenn Slater, the show focuses on the adventures of the titular character Galavant (Joshua Sasse), who lost his love Madalena (Mallory Jansen) to a villainous king named Richard (Timothy Omundson) and has gone into a slump ever since. A year later, though, Princess Isabella Maria Lucia Elizabetta (Karen David) come to seek his help in liberating the king of Valencia, which Richard has enslaved for a priceless jewel he seeks to impress Madalena, but at first, he seems very disinterested. After much coaxing, though, Galavant rides with Isabella and his squire Sid (Luke Youngblood) to save his true love and end Richard's evil reign once and for all. Little does the knight know that Isabella is luring Galavant into a trap concocted by Richard, who schemes to kill him and give Madalena the jewel in the hopes of finally pleasing her. What follows is a wonderful mix of humor, musical numbers and a lot of good character development for a LOT of the cast.
And that's just the first season. The SECOND season is where everything is kicked up to eleven, from the comedy to the songs to the writing itself. Galavant and Richard go off seeking an army to rescue Isabella and save Valencia from Madalena's reign; Richard's best friend and commander of the guard Gareth (Vinnie Jones) is upgraded to king status and begins to develop feelings for the wicked Queen and befriend the captive Sid; and Isabella has to keep from marrying her cousin Harry (who is VERY young) and prevent the wedding plans, evil plots and color schemes of the wicked sorcerer Wormwood (Robert Lindsay) from coming into fruition. That... is only the spoiler-free version of what happens in the surprise that is Season 2, which not only fixes the BIGGEST problem with the season before, but is even more hilarious, filled with more entertaining tunes and gives us more of the medieval characters we know and love.
The big shame is, the second season of Galavant could more than likely be the LAST season, and it could be the last we see of the heroic knight and his pals for a while... which is why I propose that you release the complete first and second seasons of Galavant on Blu-Ray and DVD. Even if the show doesn't get renewed for a third season, I would still LOVE to revisit the series that had so much creative and so much entertainment packed into it. We all know the show is on iTunes, especially the first season which was actually free for a short while before the second, but there's no denying that on Blu-Ray and DVD, the experience will be much more pleasing when after revisiting the episodes, you can be able to discover fun behind-the-scenes stories and facts as well as listen to the music on its own without the dialogue and SFX in the way (though leaving the singing intact for the songs themselves) or even watch the episodes again with the cast and crew of the show.
Our wishlist for the bonus features on both Blu-Ray and DVD would be:
- Two versions of each episode: Originally-Aired Version and Extended Cut
- Audio Commentaries and Isolated Music Tracks on all 18 episodes
- An extensive collection of deleted, extended and alternate scenes (including unused songs), with introductions and optional commentary by the respective episode's writers and directors
- The Season 1 & 2 gag reels, along with a new one including additional material not seen in either reel
- Sing-Alongs of the Series' Songs, including a choice to sing along with the cast or to instrumentals of said songs
- Galavant: The Making of a Comedy Extravaganza
- A New Season: The Miracle No One Thought We'd Get - a documentary on the making of Season 2
- A documentary about the music with Alan Menken, Glenn Slater, Christopher Lennertz and Michael Kosarin among others
- Extensive behind-the-scenes featurettes on the following:
-- Writing and Development
-- Casting
-- Locations and Studios
-- Filming
-- Tad Cooper
-- Post-Production (detailing stuff like sound, editing and even some VFX work if possible)
- Table Reads
- Line-O-Ramas
Quite honestly, whether you renew the series for a third season or not, it would be a crime if the Blu-Ray and DVD fanatics didn't get a chance to watch Galavant whenever they wanted. It's such a great show you guys brought us with such a creative, hilarious and awesome premise awesome executed that it deserves to live on one way or another, and we the fans of the show would be very happy if this were the way. PLEASE put the show on Blu-Ray and DVD. Maybe by doing so, Galavant will be able to get a larger fanbase for years to come, and anyone who's never seen it will be able to see what they've been missing all this time.
