AB 1707:Advocate for a Federal Bill Ensuring Access to Reproductive Healthcare Services
La causa
As someone personally affected by the increasing restrictions on reproductive healthcare services, I am deeply concerned about the barriers many individuals face in accessing these essential services. Since Roe v. Wade was overturned in June 2022, obstacles to access have grown more common, leading to delays that can result in more complex and costly procedures. In some cases, these delays can even increase health risks - a situation that becomes increasingly dangerous as pregnancies progress.
About half of U.S. states now have laws that ban or restrict access to abortion, causing many clinics to cease offering the procedure and increasing demand at remaining providers. This has created an undue burden on those seeking care, particularly those living in states with total abortion bans.
In response to this crisis, I urge our federal legislative body to draft a bill modeled after AB 1707. This bill aims at establishing new reproductive health clinics near state borders where abortion is legal - strategically reducing travel burdens for individuals from neighboring states with total ban laws.
By implementing such legislation at a federal level, we can ensure access to reproductive healthcare services for all individuals facing barriers due their state's restrictive laws. It's time we prioritize people's right to make decisions about their own bodies over politics.
