AACC stop 15 student minimum

AACC stop 15 student minimum
The Issue
Anne Arundel Community College increased the minimum class size from 10 to 12 last year. In August, minimum class size increased to 15. Who will be affected? Everyone but especially low income, minority and working students. They will have greatly reduced educational opportunities to earn associates degrees and an affordable bridge to four-year colleges. Why? Many majors such as plant sciences, creative writing, and photography will disappear because upper level classes are small. It will also affect working students who will have less choice of sections for required classes to fit their schedules, causing delays in educational goals. This will also cancel gender studies, African American literature and LatinX classes, classes that foster a sense of community belonging.
If you care about our community college, you need to act now. Ask the college and the trustees to rescind this policy and take the time to meet with students, faculty, alumni and community members to create collective vision for the future of the college. Please sign this petition and write to your local lawmakers.
