Please sign this petition for the City of Minneapolis to create a system, process, or landmark that would ultimately ensure a "Purple Night-Light" be a permanent fixture of our city's night-lit downtown skyline. No matter where you go around the country, or around the world, when you say; "I'm from Minnesota", one of the most common responses is; "Isn't that where Prince is from?". The correct answer is; Not only is Prince FROM Minnesota, but Prince IS Minnesota! He lives in us all. His untimely passing although devastating to both the residents of Minnesota and to the music community (and music lovers) in every part of the world, has brought an obvious and indescribable 'bond' amongst the residents of our great city and state, but also has brought the entire WORLD together in memory, love, and support of one another, and has given the world a view of Minnesota and the precious roots that will always, ALWAYS define "who WE are". Despite the endless possibilities of where Prince could have called "home" around the world, he chose to stay in the place that made him who he IS and that makes us who WE are. There is a certain 'disconnect' that so many of us feel with his "physical-being" having been removed from not only our lives and physical world, but from this beautiful place we call; "Home". Just as Prince called this his home for his entire brilliant life, and where he built his endless influential career. Prince's music, to many of us, has been dubbed "The Soundtrack of Our LIVES!". This is not just cliché, this IS who we are from our hearts and souls. Many people feel like a piece of them also died when we lost this great lover of his and our Hometown. With this, we are writing this petition to ask that on EVERY day of the year, EVERY night after the sun has set, that there be a Purple Light lit somewhere within the lit SKYLINE of Downtown Minneapolis for the city to be able to connect with. Many artists have drawn inspiration for decades because of the music that has made us who we are. What a gift it would be for the many artist and dreamers of the future to be able to look out at our beautiful night-lit skyline, when their emotions and creativity are at their highest peaks, to see our Purple-Light shine from within them. From within us all. The Purple Light is a light of limitless, universal, and unconditional love! The light represents so much more than the music. The light represents the past, the present, and the future. The life of #MinneapolisMN . Many people correlate some of their most precious memories to the times that were given to us with this era of greatness. This IS who we are. We ARE Minnesota. Prince IS Minnesota. And will forever be! We can NEVER see his light dim. No matter what the media has to say. No matter who believes it is their right to pass judgment. No matter what - we cannot take away from the fact that he IS to Minneapolis what Elvis is to Graceland/Nashville, and he deserves (and WE deserve) to be able to look up on any given night and see the Purple Light that brings this city and the entire world together in love and harmony. The sound of Minneapolis. The Prince of our Purple City! As a resident or a visitor of the Twin Cities, as you fly in to Minneapolis at night, it should be unmistakable. Undeniable. A Purple Light glowing, overlooking the Minneapolis night... Seeing that light on at night will give us ALL a bit of peace that otherwise seems like a void that may never be filled in our hearts. We will never quite get over such a loss in our lives. For an entire generation. Ever. However, this would certainly bring us all some comfort each night as we vow to hold high His Purple Light and love for this beautiful city!! As a matter of fact, it would mean the world to our city!
