The Issue

This petition is not against spas or any lawful business. Every legal business has the right to advertise within the boundaries of the law. However, no business should rely on the unauthorized defacement of public property or use women in ways that strip away their dignity simply to drive profit.

A woman is a human being deserving of dignity and respect. She is not an object to be pasted on an electric pole.

Kolkata is a city renowned for its literature, art, education, and progressive reformers. The values displayed on our walls become the environment in which our children grow up. Is this vulgarity truly the image of our city that we want to leave for the next generation?

Our Demand: Enforce the Existing Laws
We are not asking for new regulations or the banning of lawful trade. We are simply requesting the authorities to enforce the laws that already exist to keep our streets clean, lawful, and family-friendly.

We request the strict implementation of:

The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986: To prohibit advertisements that indecently represent women.
The West Bengal Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1976: To immediately remove unauthorized posters and penalize offenders.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act & Advertisement Bye-laws: To regulate outdoor advertisements and dismantle illegal displays.
The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023: To take action against obscene material displayed in public spaces, wherever applicable.
The Constitution of India (Articles 14, 15 & 21): To uphold the fundamental rights to equality, non-discrimination, and life with dignity.
