We live in the Bass Coast along with many others who witness burnouts daily. Despite existing hoon laws, these occurrences aren't diminishing, presenting a hazard on our public roads. Consider this: A skid pad. A space designed for the very purpose of these burnouts but within a controlled and safe environment. As a community, we believe this could be a viable and proactive solution.
The introduction of a skid pad can provide a suitable alternative for those engaged in dangerous and impulsive driving behaviours. According to Victoria Police, in the year 2018-2019 alone, over 12,000 alleged hoon-related offences were reported across Victoria, demonstrating the gravity of the issue (source: Victoria Police). It is clear that punitive measures have not been as effective as hoped, further emphasizing the need for an alternative approach in managing the problem.
With public access to a properly-regulated skid pad, where burnouts can be performed without jeopardising the safety of others, we can potentially reduce the number of incidents on public roads around the Bass Coast. This could lead to safer streets, improved public welfare and, ultimately, a more peaceful coexistence.
Support our endeavor. Stand with us in this pursuit for safety and responsible driver behavior. Sign the petition to let the public have access to a new skid pad in Bass Coast.
