Let's name the waters of The Bahamas, the Lucayan Sea!

Let's name the waters of The Bahamas, the Lucayan Sea!

The Issue

Let’s act today to give The Bahamas’ greatest natural resource, its waters, a name at last.

Join the growing movement to name the beautiful waters of The Islands of The Bahamas The Lucayan Sea in tribute to the peaceful Lucayan people who first inhabited the 140,000 square mile island nation that is now home to hundreds of thousands, and a magical place for millions of visitors.

Islands further south are in the Caribbean—named after the Carib Indian—but The Bahamas has simply been part of the Atlantic though astronauts have pronounced its waters “the most beautiful on earth” from space. If the Caribbean Sea is named after the Carib Indians, it makes sense to name the waters of The Bahamas after the Lucayans.

Be part of the positive change; let's name these unnamed waters The Lucayan Sea for a sense of pride, an identity of peace, and a distinguishing trademark that gives Bahamians all the more reason to take pride in the majestic hues of blues and greens, and waves of breathtaking beauty.
